COMPLAINT:
A 2013 Dodge Grand Caravan 3.6L with a 62TE transmission comes into the shop from a
general repair shop after changing the TIPM. It originally had a hard start and engine stalling issues. After repairs the transmission remains in limp mode with code P1745 set for
Transmission Line Pressure Too High for Too Long. When the code is erased, it returns as soon as the vehicle is placed into gear.
CAUSE:
Code P1745 is usually accompanied with another code which caused P1745 to set. Certain
malfunctions occur causing the computer to go into an open-loop line pressure strategy
causing high line. If the transmission remains in this strategy for 2000 miles or 1000 2-3 upshifts code P1745 sets. The accompanying codes needs to be resolved in order to eliminate P1745. Often times a repair is made such as an TIPM replacement. All codes are then erased with only P1745 remaining leaving the tech unsure what direction to take. With no other codes in the system, all that needs to be done is to reset the VLP counter.
CORRECTION:
In order to erase this DTC you must reset the VLP Shift Counter and the Output tooth counter which is accomplished through a capable scan tool in a function called „Clear Variable Line Pressure (VLP) counters“.
